Celebrating the life of
Helen Rowland Lynah
May 08, 1925 - July 05, 2024
Helen Rowland Lynah passed away peacefully on July 5, 2024. Born May 8, 1925, to Minnie Coney and Charles Pinckney Rowland in Savannah, Georgia, Helen attended Pape School and graduated from Dwight School in Englewood New Jersey. In 1955 she married Wallace Howard Lynah of Savannah and they lovingly raised two daughters and a son together during their 42-year marriage. Helen had a deep appreciation of nature and God’s magnificent earth, being especially drawn to the unique beauty, history and culture of coastal Georgia and its barrier islands. Helen’s curiosity and adventurous spirit eventually led her on numerous excursions farther from home and across the globe; often to remote areas sleeping in tents and traveling by basic means. Whether it was hiking the Himalayas or experiencing a major earthquake on a mountainside in Guatemala, Helen had a truly immersive interest in the world around her.
Closer to home and over the years, Helen enjoyed spending time during the summers on the Back River at Tybee, playing tennis with her friends of all ages, observing the wonders of the night sky with her telescope, reading voraciously, and listening to live music. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Wallace, her brother Charles Greenlee Rowland who perished at sea during WWII, her sister Mary Rowland Colquitt and her husband Adrian, her son Charles Wallace Lynah and her beloved aunt Helen Clark Rowland. She is survived by her daughters Helen Lynah Stone, Mary Lynah Lewis and Mary’s husband Christian, her grandchildren Wesley Ten Broeck Stone, Lynah Stone Gottlieb and her husband Bennett, Mary Rowland Lewis and Lucy Elizabeth Lewis, as well as her great grandchildren Wallace Banks Gottlieb, William Harris Gottlieb, and Merit Elizabeth Gottlieb. The family wishes to sincerely thank the amazing caregivers at the Oaks of the Marshes on Skidaway Island for their love and support that went above and beyond the call of duty and which will never be forgotten.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday July 17th at 10:30 a.m. at Bonaventure cemetery.
Donations in Helen’s memory could be made to the Humane Society or the charity of your choice.

Dear Helen, Mary, Christian and all the grands and great grands Helen was a gem. Helen enriched my life and my family's lives. Losing her is like losing my grandmother all over again.
